Important Questions in K-12 STEM Education #11 | Is Science Literacy Still a Goal of Science Education?
One major goal of science education during the 1990s and 2000s was for students to become scientifically literate upon graduation. The Framework for K-12 Science Education, released in 2012, ushered in a new era in to science teaching and learning. In response, conversations in science education are focused on 3-dimension instruction, explaining phenomena, and incorporating engineering practices into science classes. This begs the question, is science literacy still a goal of science education? In this webinar, Dr. Todd Hutner will discuss how science literacy is still a goal of science education, even if the term is not explicitly included in the Framework.

Important Questions in K-12 STEM Education #12 | What Do We Mean by the Joy and Wonder of Mathematics?
In 2018, NCTM released the first in the Catalyzing Change series of reports. Within this report, NCTM calls for broadening the purposes of mathematics taught in K-12 schools. One of the purposes of mathematics education included in this report is to help students appreciate the joy and wonder in mathematics. In this webinar, Dr. Todd Hutner will dig into what is meant by the joy and wonder of mathematics and why it is important for students to be exposed to these ideas.
